Tour groups on the terraces of the Pena Palace overlooking Sintra

The best Pena Palace tour depends on one thing: whether it takes you inside the palace. Many cheap Sintra day trips only enter the park and terraces; tours with the palace ticket included start higher. Below, every tour we list is sorted from the lowest price, with the palace entry marked on each card.

In short

  • Cheapest: day trips from Lisbon from about €22, park and terraces only.
  • Palace ticket as an option: guided days from about €30, choose the right option at checkout.
  • Palace ticket included: half-day and small-group tours from about €80.
  • Doing it yourself: €20 Essential Visit plus train and bus (Parques de Sintra, 2026).

How do you know if a tour enters the palace?

Read the inclusions, not the title. A title can say “Pena Palace” and still mean the outside only. We look for one of three cases in each listing:

  • Included: the listing names the palace interior or the Essential ticket. Marked “Pena ticket included”.
  • Option: the palace ticket comes only with a pricier option. Marked “Pena ticket as an option”.
  • Not included: the park, the terraces or nothing at all. Marked “Pena ticket not included” or “Park entry, no palace rooms”.

We leave out tours that ask you to pay the guide in cash for tickets on the day: the final price is unclear when you book.

Small group, big group or private?

Small groups of up to 8 people travel in a van, which suits Sintra’s narrow roads and short stops. Bigger groups are cheaper. Private tours cost the most but let you choose your own pace and pickup point. If your palace slot matters, a tour that books it for you (marked “Timed ticket booked for you”) removes the main risk: palace tickets are for one date and entry time; there is no tolerance for delays, you cannot go in early, and a missed slot is not refunded.

Is a tour worth it, or should you go on your own?

On your own is cheaper and easy by train: see our getting there guide. A tour is worth it if you want one booking for the transport and the slot, or want to add Quinta da Regaleira, Cabo da Roca and Cascais in the same day. For a full-day plan either way, see the day trip from Lisbon.

Prices on the cards come from the booking platforms and change; the price at checkout is the one that counts.

Questions people ask

Do Pena Palace tours include the entrance ticket?

Not always. Some include the palace interior ticket, some sell it as an option, and the cheapest only enter the park and terraces. Each card on this page says which.

How much is a Sintra tour from Lisbon?

On the platforms we checked in October 2026, day trips started at about €22 per person without the palace rooms, and tours with the palace ticket included from about €80.

Is a tour better than going on my own?

On your own is cheaper: the Essential Visit costs €20 plus the train and bus. A tour saves you the transport and, if included, the slot booking.
