What does each price include?
The park ticket (€12) and the Essential Visit (€20) are only a few euros apart, yet one shows the palace rooms and the other does not.
- Visit to the Park covers the Temple of Columns, the High Cross (Cruz Alta), the Valley of the Lakes, the Queen’s Fern Valley, the Camellia Garden, Pena Farm and the Chalet and Garden of the Countess of Edla. No palace interior.
- Essential Visit adds the New Palace wing of the palace (self-guided, at a booked time) and the whole Park of Pena, including the Chalet of the Countess of Edla, at the entry time on your ticket.
- Complete Visit adds the Private Apartments, at fixed times (11:15, 14:15, 15:00, 15:45, 16:15 and 17:00), maximum 20 people, with a Parques de Sintra visitor assistant.
- Guided Visit is 90 minutes with a cultural mediator.
- Theatrical Visit shows the Private Apartments with actors.
Two other products sit outside this table: a park guided tour at €20 and the “Pena Trail” walk from the town at €35 (adult prices, same source).
Which ticket is the best value?
For a first visit, the Essential Visit. It is the cheapest way into the palace and it includes the park and chalet, which take as long to see as the palace itself. The Complete Visit is worth the extra if you are a palace-interiors person, and its small groups make the rooms calmer.
What costs extra?
- The park shuttle: €4.50 return, ages 6 and over, bought in advance. It runs a small shuttle every 15 minutes between the main park entrance and the palace: first ascent 9:00, last ascent 18:15; last departure from the palace 18:30.
- Getting to Sintra: the train from Lisbon and the bus up to Pena are not part of the Pena ticket. Routes are in our getting there guide.
- Discounts for visitors with a disability: 50% off for visitors with a disability, with proof; a companion enters free (accessibility page).
Resellers and tours often charge more than the official price for the same ticket. That can still be worth it when transport or a guide is included. Compare in our tours guide or see how to buy the ticket.
